The Whodlums
The Whodlum's are a 5 piece unit but play as a 4 piece band; we are
all mates; and we are the 1st North East Tribute Band to "The Who". The
band formed Summer 2006 with the aim to recreate the authenticity and
sound of "The Who" live. The band play an array of songs from
'Substitute' 'My Generation' 'Pinball Wizard 'Bargain' and 'The Seeker'
with the added bonus of 'Wont Get Fooled Again' , 'Who Are You' & 'Baba
O Riley' completing the set list. The Whodlum's play the music of the
band they have followed all their life. John: "We understand that "The
Who" are the worlds biggest Rock Band and to produce the sound and music
of The Who is going to be a very difficult task, however because we are
all WHO fans and enjoy playing the songs you will find that The
Whodlum's put their stamp on each song". The songs are played The
Whodlum's way.
John - Lead Vocals
John a mad Who fan, first starting playing guitar seriously in
1998, His fist serious band was an All Acoustic set up then moved to a
Mod style band playing songs by The Jam, Weller & The Who. The band was
called 'Substitute'. It was in 'Substitute' that I moved from Rhythm
Guitar to Lead Vocals.
I was at 'The Wholigans' gig in Newcastle (the
original Who tribute act) when I decided that I wanted to get involved
in something similar, to play the music of 'The Who'. If you were at
this gig you would have felt the energy from these guy's, they were
awesome.
I just wanted to play such songs as Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel
Me, My Generation, I can See For Mile, Squeeze Box, Can't Explain The
Kids Are Alright, Pictures of Lily, Magic Bus and my favorite 'Behind
Blue Eyes'. The list could go on and on.
It is a great pleasure to work
with such talented lads in The Whodlums creating a set list from scratch
has been the highlight. Cheers Lad.
My vision was to play the music of
The Who and maybe one day play with in the very FIRST North East Tribute
band to 'The Who' that was my goal when I first decided to pull this all
together and guess what "I did it".
Cheers, John
Pete - Lead Guitar and Vocals
Joined the band in 2007 and says "I love Pete Townshend's style of guitar playing, so
being in the Who Tribute band is just great". He uses Rickenbacker and Gibson guitars.
Ian - Bass Guitar and Vocals
Aka, Thunder Fingers, The final piece in the Whodlums jigsaw, The band
waited a long time to find their man and as the saying goes "great
things come to them that wait". Welcoming words by the band. Ian
plays his Bass like Thunder, he steals the show with his power and
rawness on The Real Me, Won't Get Fooled Again and My Generation. Ian
simply loves to play bass guitar and raises to the challenge of playing
bass lines from 'The Ox' Mr Entwhistle.
Ian uses Fender Jazz and Fender
Jazz Custom guitars, and a rig consisting of a Trace Elliot 500 Watt
head, Trace Elliot 1x15 and 4x10 cabs with specially designed Celestion
drivers, and Line 6 effects processor.
Can you see the Realllllllllllllll me Can Ya CAN YA
Bob - Drums and Vocals
I was born sometime before they invented electricity and learned drums
in my teens. At that time I was heavily influenced by the great rock
drummers of the time namely John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) Keith Moon (The
Who) and Simon Kirke (Free). These drummers were not big on speed, more
on technique and that's the way I like to play to-day making use of
difficult snare and base drum combinations. I have been a member of many
rock bands over the years and presently use my own customised Premier
kit with top-range Sabian cymbals to give a sharp rock sound. I recall
seeing The Who a few times in the 1970s and they were awesome, so when I
was given the chance to join the whodlums, I jumped at it! ...as much as
you can once yur over 50 !
Keep on Rockin'...
Dan - Sound Engineer
It's a pleasure for me, to be able to help and learn beside these
talented artist. I'm also proud to handle the electrical side of the
band which consist of: EP2500 - Behringer Europower 2x1200 watts power
amplifier; PMH1000 - Behringer Europower 8 channel mixer desk; 2 Peavey
power subs, backed up by 2 Celestion SR1's; 3 Carlsbro independent
monitors. Beside this we also have for the guitars one Marshall and one
